Last ThoughtsAfter many trips abroad, almost 10 months in Poland and too many years in The South of England I still considered County Durham my home. I'd had enough of my daily drive to 'The East End' of Newcastle so I took very early retirement and moved to France.
It was great living near Durham's magnificent scenery and beautiful cathedral but listening to politicians telling lies about education was sickening. It really doesn't matter whether it's Blunkett, Morris, Clarke or the next one..... Education is the 'political football' of British Politics and I was fed up with this continual stupidity. It was time for an adventure. There are lots more sunsets to see and I'm not growing any younger.
Sunset over Medomsley.
My latest home - France
I'd downloaded hundreds of photos of French houses and thought for years about moving abroad. I looked at property in my spiritual home, Poland but in the end I bought a house in Brittany. It's in a small hamlet near Laniscat. The village has no shops or bars and the church is only open one day each year but life here is great. The postal address is: KER YOUENN, 3 Hent Milin Liskuiz, Rosquelfen, 22570 Laniscat, FRANCE. Just click on this link to send me a message.
Some of the nearby tourist places are beautiful
The Abbey of Bon Repos and Lac de Guerledan are both nearby. The village of St. Caradec is quite pretty.
My house can be seen from the tiny roundabout in the village. Rosquelfen now has a streetlight but it's switched off before 11 pm to save electricity. The garden is large and there are some lovely walks nearby.
Fancy a visit? The light in our country lanes is magic.
The only sad thing about moving home is the loss of contact with old friends. If you've seen any of these people please let me know......... I’d not heard of the Mighty Mouse guitarist, Eunan Brady since 1971. Nicky Moore reckoned Eunan may still be somewhere in the Notting Hill area. However, I've received a couple of messages from Wreckless Eric saying that Eunan joined Love Affair then became a founder member of Hollywood Brats. Have a look at their sites. The bassist from that band, John Restall returned to Wales when we split up. I've not heard of him since 1970. Another old friend from that era was Terry Durnien. He lived in Willesden Green during the late sixties and he introduced me to the best pubs in London. I've also lost touch with a keyboards player/singer/songwriter called Gaynor Coburn. Gaynor visited me a couple of times in Sunderland before losing herself somewhere in Farnborough. When I first published this page in March 2002 I was looking for Mick Kirton. He sang in several bands with Bob Moody and myself then he went on the road with Tony McPhee's Groundhogs. Mick was featured on the back cover of Rhythm Magazine in the late 1980s. I found him with help from Dumpy. (Dumpy's Rusty Nuts) There's a link to his pages below. I've recently found the keyboard player, Steve Gresswell. He's a very successful songwriter/musician and like most of us he has a web page - please take a look. Steve's success is well-deserved. Listen to his music .......in fact, have a look at all their sites: http://www.mickkirton.co.uk for drums, http://www.dumpysrustynuts.net for venues and the history of hisband and http://www.sumorecords.com for fine music from Steve. These links are repeated on my DRUMS page.
Here's someone else now living in France - though not near me.
If you're reading this and you remember me we need to go for a drink. If we've somehow lost touch or not seen each other for some time please contact me. If you're passing please drop in. There's always painting or gardening to do.
