I played my first gig in February 1967. Since then I've never stopped drumming. Now I have a great lifestyle; I've a micro-enterprise in France as a drum teacher and gigging drummer. (Siret - 501 038 384 00019)
Premier Signia Kit with 5" snare drum & SM57 microphones.
I have a purpose built room with 2 drum kits (Left & right-handed) as well as practice pads, plenty of sticks, a computer with approx 250 Gb of music, p.a., speakers and microphones. In fact, everything necessary to set up, tune, play, maintain and mic a kit. If you have your own drums I can teach here or in your own home. My rates are considerably less than you'd pay in the UK. I offer reductions for children under 12 years and I'll happily teach siblings together. I can even teach parents & children together..... if the parents aren't too nervous! Most students have chosen lesson times on Saturdays, early evenings or school half-days. I make allowances for holidays and I offer a trial lesson.

Premier 7" Signia Snare (Damask) & Premier Signia Bass Drum (Terraverde Green)
Part of my service is offering advice to students about buying equipment. There's no pressure from me to buy drums as they are personal things. Choice of kit depends on drumming style, price and often colour. I enjoy visiting drum shops so I'm always happy to help.
Alan seen playing and reading the music....... who said drummers can't multitask?
I am also available for dep work or gigs. I play regularly as part of a duo offering almost all styles of music. In 2010 I bought a Roland kit to have my first try with electric drums. I'm so hooked on these things that I've recently bought a Premier XPK kit and had it convertedby Dave at Diamond Drums. His work is superb. I play my kit with the latest Roland TD20X module. The drums have the natural feel and appearance of an acoustic kit but they sound magic!
Dave is currently making up two more toms and the snare for my next kit. I'll put up photos as soon as they are finished. If you are a drummer who uses electronic drums please try his electro-acoustic kits. They are the best you can play.
Drum Links
The Shadows' drummer Brian Bennett has a website. He's always been so much more than a drummer.
Every year there's a National Drum Fair It's a great place to see demos as well as both modern & vintage drums.
Most UK drummers visit Mike Dolbear's Site sooner or later. A great resource for all percussionists. Somewhere for support, advice, an opportunity to chat with drum builders and buy or sell equipment. Another place to look for information or equipment is the French site: http://www.ladrummerie.com/index.php
A 'little lad' that I taught back in the 1970s has become an outstanding drummer. Andy Aust opened a teaching studio in Berkshire:Stepstone Music
This site is 'A MUST' for anyone looking at electronic drums: http://www.diamondelectronicdrums.com Dave will build you a full kit or he can build an individual drum. Size and depth of shells are no problem. He can also convert drums or just renovate your project. He is now building and shipping to the EU, Australia, South America and the USA. I have tried electronic drums from several manufacturers and Diamond Drums are certainly THE BEST.
A close friend from my school days, Jim Tait is the driving force behind a series of music nights which take place in Durham. He has recently organised a new venue for music nights. Have a close look at http://chiltoncountrypubandhotel.co.uk It's a great night out with LIVE MUSIC!
I love 60s music - especially psychedelic. Take a look at Marmalade Skies and follow the links to Tenth Planet or Wooden Hill Records. It's excellent stuff, especially the CDs from their series Psychedelic Schlemiels ........ Volumes 1, 2 & 3.
